LINGUISTIC EXPLORATIONS OF ACCENTED AMERICAN ENGLISH

Arthur J. Compton, Ph.D.

Dear Colleague:

It gives me great satisfaction to be able to present to you my new publication, “Linguistic Explorations of Accented American English.” This research of over 30 years was conducted in conjunction with the evolution, development and use of the "Pronouncing English as a Second Language" (PESL) program. Much of this information has been presented at numerous professional associations and conventions but never quite made it to print.

      1. Many people (including our clients as well as their employers) believe that a few years after completing an accent reduction course, much of their speech improvements will gradually be fade away; absolutely false!
      2. Older people (over 60+) will have a harder time improving their speech than younger ones;
      3. Well educated individuals, (MA’s and Ph.D’s) will do better than high-school dropouts;
      4. Clients who pay for their own accent classes will do better than those whose employers pay, etc; all, absolutely false!
      5. Clients who take our courses improve their spoken grammar by 25% to 30%. Absolutely true!

This information and much, much more is now available to you in my new publication.

No time is wasted with this language test for 3- to 6-year-olds Organized to avoid repetition and take advantage of spontaneous conversation, it evaluates a wide range of skills in only 6-10 minutes

The present evaluation is offered to you as the product of having successfully accomplished that original objective. -Arthur J. Compton, Ph.D.
